Composer AR Rahman spoke about what music means to him and explained the popularity of live concerts at a recent event. He described music as a therapeutic art form. "Music is like medicine," the legendary music director said.
He also stated that people like to listen to music with a human touch instead of its AI-generated variants. According to him, this preference explains why live concerts are becoming popular once again in India. The singer-composer's comments about music come at a time when it is widely believed that the country is experiencing a 'concert boom'. The market value of live concerts has gone up considerably in the recent past in India.
This is not Rahman's first opinion about the use of artificial intelligence in the field of music. In a recent conversation with PTI, he expressed concerns over the misuse of AI for the creation of music.
On the concert front, AR Rahman recently wrapped his concert tour, called The Wonderment Tour, and he has multiple other live events scheduled to take place throughout the year. Right now, he is doing a concert for the IPL team Chennai Super Kings, which is called 'Roar 26' and is already underway.
On the film front, he has quite a few projects that will release in the near future, including the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana, where he works with Hans Zimmer, Dhanush's 56th film with director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, and the recently confirmed Mani Ratnam directorial, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi.
