Actor-director Radhakrishnan Parthiban has issued a fresh written apology, a day after his audio message addressing the controversy surrounding his recent caste remark.
In his latest statement, Parthiban said he believes in correcting not just minor errors but all mistakes immediately, which prompted him to “revise and repost” his clarification. Emphasising that his words were neither intentional nor driven by any personal gain, he described the remark as a “slip of the tongue” and noted that it was the first time in his long career that he had referred to a caste name.
Stating that he does not support caste-based glorification, the actor pointed out that he has, in fact, criticised such practices in several of his works and public appearances. “Would I do something I myself oppose?” he asked, expressing deep regret over the incident. He added that he relies solely on his talent and would never attempt to benefit by invoking caste, even inadvertently.
Parthiban also extended a heartfelt apology to those hurt by his words and assured that such a mistake would not be repeated. He urged his supporters to move past the episode and continue to encourage him, adding that he is “more distressed than anyone else” about the situation and will be “extremely careful” going forward.
The written note follows an earlier audio apology in which Parthiban had similarly expressed remorse, calling the remark unintentional and acknowledging the pain it caused. He had then appealed for understanding, stating that the comment did not reflect his beliefs.
The controversy began after a video clip of the actor surfaced online, in which he was heard mentioning a caste identity during a public interaction. At the Ustaad Bhagat Singh event, Parthiban introduced himself by referring to his roots. “I am Radhakrishnan Parthiban, a Naidu boy,” he said, adding that his Telugu background had played a role in shaping his fluency in Tamil. His references to caste during the event courted controversy. Some users said that the actor-filmmaker's comments went against his own anti-caste stance at the Margazhiyil Makkal Isai festival, organised by Neelam Cultural Centre of Pa Ranjith. According to them, the comments lay bare his hypocrisy.
