Director Ameer has expressed his anger at actor-politician Vijay for conducting a women's day event in Chennai. Hitting out at him, he wrote on his WhatsAppp status, "Throwing his wife and daughter out of the house, and then holding a disgraceful political event called ‘Women’s Day celebration'." His words of anger seems to have come days after Vijay's wife Sankgeetha filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences, allegations of adultry, and mental strain."
She alleged that Vijay had an extramarital affair with an unnamed actress in 2021. The petition also alleged that Sankgeetha was neglected mentally, emotionally, and physically. It also mentions that she was subjected to verbal disdain.
Ever since the news became public, heated debates and discussions followed on social media, with them intensifying after Vijay was seen alongside Trisha, while attending the wedding reception of producer Kalpathi Suresh and Meenakshi Suresh's son. They were also seen in colour-coordinated outfits, further stirring controversies.
Earlier, actor and Bigg Boss Tamil-fame Sanam Shetty had also criticised the actor for his actions. She wrote on X, "No! This is not the way. Grief of the wife cannot be ignored like this! As a long time fan its deeply disappointing to watch at this time!"
To celebrate International Women's Day, Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) organised a celebratory event on Saturday in Mamallapuram. The actor will be attending the grand function, and as part of the election manifesto for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections, he will reportedly be announcing the schemes and plans of the party for women.
