On Thursday, we reported about Vijay and Trisha appearing together for the wedding reception of Kalpathi Suresh and Meenakshi Suresh's son. The move attracted much attention because it came shortly after Sankgeetha, Vijay's wife, filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu District Court. In the petition, she said that her relationship with Vijay has been broken as he allegedly broke her trust and marital integrity by being in an extramarital relationship with an actor. While the statement did not mention any names, it has been widely speculated that Sankgeetha was referring to Trisha.
The speculation, which has been around for a few years now, has only reached a different level due to Vijay and Trisha's public appearance. It has not gone down well with a section of the Vijay faithful, with them expressing their disappointment at the superstar's actions. Take actor and Bigg Boss Tamil fame Sanam Shetty, for instance. She shared the video of Vijay and Trisha's public appearance and wrote on X, "No! This is not the way. Grief of the wife cannot be ignored like this! As a long time fan its deeply disappointing to watch at this time!"
In her petition, Sankgeetha alleged that Vijay restricted her financial freedom and free movement. Meanwhile, some are defending Vijay and calling it his freedom to live his life on his own terms, now that the divorce has been filed. Referring to one of them, Sanam Shetty wrote, "You can look at any angle you want! I'm not stopping you."
Another user asked the actor-Bigg Boss fame whether she would not get into a new relationship if the former one failed. In response, she wrote, "You need to end the marriage if in another relationship and announce it after legally divorced! That's the right way morally and legally."
That said, the actor did not deny the possibility of Vijay and Trisha still being friends, as opposed to the speculation. When a user hinted at this possibility, she wrote, "They can be (friends)... but is it the right time to make this public appearance together when allegations have surfaced just a few days back? Especially without any counter statement from their side!"
