Following the release of Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyaar on Prime Video in late January, the streamer has announced that of its Telugu version. Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film, titled Annagaru Vostaru, is set to release on Prime Video on March 06, Friday. Karthi himself appeared in video and dedicated the film to NTR. He called it "a special gift" to NTR's fans. "The impact he had on the society, the emotional connect he had with his fans was huge. To reintroduce his vintage style to the current generation, is our small tribute to the great legend."

For the uninitiated, Vaa Vaathiyaar, the film's Tamil version, reimagines actor-politician MG Ramachandran's ideals through the prism of a fantasy. Following the birth of a child in a way that coincides with MGR's passing, a man believes that his son is the legend's reincarnation. In the Telugu version, MGR is replaced with NTR.

Vaa Vaathiyaar hit theatres in January mid. According to the industry traacker, it earned a net collection of around 11 crore at the global box office.

The film brought Krithi Shetty, who is known for her work in Telugu cinema, back to the Tamil film industry for the first time after 2023's Custody, which also starred Naga Chaitanya. The actor is also part of Vignesh Shivan's Love Insurance Kompany, where she stars opposite Pradeep Ranganathan.

Vaa Vaathiyaar/Annagaru Vostaru also stars Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, and Anandaraj, among others. In our review, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "Despite having a fantastical element at the centre of things, Vaa Vaathiyaar is Nalan’s most simplistic and straightforward film. It feels more like a compromise and less of a cinematic endeavour simply because the beats are familiar, the notes are familiar, and so is the final output, even if it is enjoyable in parts."
