As promised, the makers of writer-director Chella Ayyavu's Gatta Kusthi 2 dropped a teaser for the film earlier this evening. The promotional video hints at a direct sequel for the 2022 film, continuing the husband-wife dynamic following the events of the first film. The Gatta Kusthi 2 teaser starts with a flashback to the first part, showing glimpses of the chauvinistic treatment of Aishwarya Lekshmi's character by Vishnu Vishal's hero. In the second film, judging by the Gatta Kusthi 2 teaser, he appears to remain a transformed man, willing to go to any lengths to ensure that his wife's sports career flourishes.
The film also brings back the original cast: Kaali Venkat, Munishkanth, Karunas, Lizzie Antony, Sreeja Ravi, and Gajaraj. The new additions to the cast of the Gatta Kusthi sequel include Ramya Krishnan, Mokksha, Yogi Babu, Karunakaran, and child actor Zara Zyanna.
Produced by Ishari K Ganesh of Vels Film International and Vishnu Vishal himself under his namesake banner, Gatta Kusthi 2 is set for a July 03 release in theatres. On the technical front, the film has music by Sean Roldan, cinematography by KM Bhaskaran, editing by Barath Vikraman, and art direction by Jayachandran.
Recently, the cast members and the director of the film spoke about what makes it work. According to Vishnu Vishal and his co-star Kaali Venkat, the highlight of the film is its climax.
Gatta Kusthi 2 comes hot on the heels of Vishnu Vishal's thriller Aaryan, which failed at the box office. For Aishwarya Lekshmi, too, it comes after the failure of Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles and directed by Mani Ratnam.
