Actor Brigida Saga described Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku as one of the most emotionally fulfilling projects of her career while speaking at the film's press meet on Monday.
Expressing her gratitude for being part of the project, Brigida had high praise for director Dayal Padmanabhan, calling him not only an accomplished filmmaker but also a compassionate leader on set.
The actor went on to highlight the filmmaker's personal qualities, stating that he ensured a comfortable working environment for the entire cast and crew. According to Brigida, Dayal's caring nature and meticulous planning played a significant role in shaping the experience of making the film. “More than being an exceptional director, he is an incredible human being. He made me feel extremely comfortable on the sets and cared for everyone in a very fatherly manner. His planning and execution are phenomenal,” she added.
Brigida also revealed that the film holds a special place in her heart because of the emotional connection she developed with her character from the very first day of shooting. Recalling her introduction to the role, she said her first scene involved carrying her children while waiting for her husband's character. The moment immediately reminded her of her grandmother and helped her access the emotional depth required for the performance.
“Personally, this film is very close to my heart. When I got this opportunity, my very first scene involved carrying my children and waiting for my husband's character. I instantly connected with the soul of my grandmother while performing that scene,” she said. She added that a lot of films that she has acted in so far are set in the 80s period, including her last film, Idli Kadai. "I sometimes wonder why I wasn’t born in the 80s era," she revealed.
The actor noted that she carried that feeling throughout the shoot, making the project a deeply personal and memorable experience. Describing herself as a workaholic, Brigida said she cherishes films that leave a lasting emotional impact on her, and Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku is one such project.
“Throughout the film, I carried the same emotional connection, which made this project deeply special to me. I am a workaholic, and every time I am part of a soulful film, it becomes a memorable takeaway. This film has given me one such experience,” she said.
Brigida also expressed her admiration for co-star Vetri, who plays Arivumathi, a prisoner at the center of the film's story. Calling him a dedicated performer, she thanked him and the rest of the team for making the journey memorable. “My co-star Vetri is a wonderful and sweet person, a dedicated and genuine artist. I sincerely thank the entire team for this beautiful opportunity,” she concluded.
Directed by Dayal Padmanabhan, Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku is based on real-life incidents and is set in 1972. The film revolves around a death-row prisoner's final night as he revisits key moments from his past. The cast includes Vetri, Rangaraj Pandey, Saravanan, Brigida Saga, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Lizzie Antony, and Subramaniam Siva, among others. The film is slated to release in theaters on June 25.
