Actor Raai Laxmi, who played the female lead in Raghava Lawrence's hit 2011 film Kanchana, has hinted at a possible return to the popular franchise, saying that if she collaborates with Raghava Lawrence again, it would only be for a Kanchana film.
Speaking in a recent interview with Times of India, Raai Laxmi looked back on her experience working in the horror comedy, which went on to become one of the biggest hits in the genre. Reflecting on the franchise's journey, she admitted that she feels the later instalments did not quite recreate the magic of the first film.
"I think the stories of the later instalments were nowhere close to Kanchana 1. Also, when I did the film, horror was not trending. People actually asked me why I was doing a horror film. However, since then, I've majorly done horror and thriller films, including Aranmanai," she said.
When asked if she would be a part of Kanchana 4, the actor chose not to confirm anything but dropped an intriguing hint. "Whenever I work with him (Raghava Lawrence) again, it will only be for Kanchana. I'm sure he'll come up with something," she said.
After Kanchana, Raghava Lawrence continued the franchise with two more films - Kanchana 2 (2015) starring Taapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen as female leads and Kanchana 3 (2019) with Oviya, Vedika and Nikki Tamboli.
He is now working on Kanchana 4 which stars Pooja Hegde, Nora Fatehi, Swaksha Iyer, Devadarshini and Kamalesh Jagan. It marks Nora's Tamil debut. Speculations are also rife about Nayanthara playing a key role in the film which is yet to be confirmed. The cast also includes Ramachandra Raju, more popularly called Garuda Ram, and Anand Raj in a role reprisal. Both Garuda Ram and Anand Raj play negative roles in the film.
Kanchana 4's makers are yet to reveal any information about the film's plot. It is presented by Goldmines Telefilms' Manish Shah and Sun Pictures' Kalanithi Maran. Earlier, Raghava Lawrence revealed that he would use his remuneration for the film to turn his first house into a school.
Meanwhile, Raai Laxmi's last Tamil film was Cinderella (2015).
