Anbe Diana has made a big progress at the box office on its third day. Pari Elavazhagan's romantic drama, which made a modest earning of Rs 30 lakh on its first day in theatres on Friday, rose to Rs 83 lakh on Saturday. On Sunday, the film collected a net of Rs 1.25 crore across 790 shows, representing a 50.6 per cent growth from Saturday. This brings total India gross collections to Rs 2.73 crore and total India net collections to Rs 2.38 crore so far.
Thanks to the positive word-of-mouth reviews, Anbe Diana has been steadily bringing crowds to theatres. But the real test would be if the film sustained the momentum on the weekdays in theatres.
The film stars Pari Elavazhagan as a happy-go-lucky youngster who gets into a romantic relationship with an Anglo-Indian woman (Ramya Ranganathan). Pari and Ramya's characters are caught between two families whose elders force them to adopt practises from their religion. His mother wants Ramya to take on Hindu practises, whereas her father wants him to choose Christian rituals for the marriage.
Upon release, the film has been receiving mixed and positive reviews. An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "Staying refreshingly clear of overt messaging, Anbe Diana ultimately leaves behind a simple takeaway: not just fortune, but 'Magic' too favours the brave. In the film, Magic is not merely an abstract force but a person who nudges Sita Krishna to confront his fears and believe that he, too, deserves happiness and her love."
Anbe Diana also stars Parithabangal-fame Gopi, Roja Selvamani, and Chetan in prominent roles.
On the technical front, the film has cinematographer Shelley Calist, composer Bharath Sankar, editor Partha MA, and art director Mahendran. It is produced by Yuvaraj Ganesan of Million Dollar Studios in association with Sathya Karikalan of Neo Castle Creations.
