Stunt choreographer Anl Arasu won his maiden National Film Award for his work in Nithilan Saminathan's Maharaja. Arasu has become the first winner of the National Award for Best Stunt Choreography for a Tamil film.
In an exclusive conversation with CE, Arasu said, “I was told that over 400 films have competed in this category, but winning such an award for a film which is grounded and realistic feels specials."
He added, “Recognition for stuntmen is very new and this category amongst the National awards is also new. But I only hope that stuntmen are recognised more and rewarded more.”
Maharaja which stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, follows the story of a man's quest to seek justice for his daughter. Debutante Sachana Namidass was the recipient for the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Arasu has worked on films as an assistant to multiple stunt choreographers and began working on films since 2004. His latest film is the Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, which is set to release on July 23.
