Actor Dhanush has responded to the 72nd National Film Awards jury's decisions to present his second directorial venture, Raayan, with Best Tamil Film for the year 2024, and to recognise his performance in Captain Miller. In his statement shared on social media, he wrote, "I'm truly humbled and overwhelmed to have received the National Award for Best Regional Film for Raayan and the National Award (Special Mention - Best Actor) for Captain Miller."
Making the announcement, National Film Awards Jury head, director Jayaraj, stated that Raayan has "raw power" and the "hero commands the screen with magnetic, brooding ferocity." Conveying his "heartfelt gratitude to the" jury, the actor-director recognised the fact that the recognition for Raayan marked his first National Award as a filmmaker and his third overall. Earlier, Dhanush won won Best Actor for Aadukalam (2010) and Asuran (2019). It is worth noting that he is one of the co-producers of Kaaka Muttai (2014) and Visaranai (2015), which won Best Children's Film and Best Tamil Film, respectively.
Dhanush said that the award for Raayan is "unforgettable" and "a blessing I will cherish forever". As for the accolade for Captain Miller, he shared that it is "especially close to my heart because I have always believed it to be my finest performance to date. Receiving a special mention for a performance I hold so dearly makes this honour even more meaningful."
He dedicated the awards to his fans, calling them his "pillars of strength," and conveyed his gratitude to them.
Many prominent personalities congratulated the actor-filmmaker on his achievements, including Chief Minister Vijay, his Om co-star Mammootty, Union Minister of State L Murugan, politician K Annamalai, and MLA Edappadi K Palaniswami.
