It has been widely speculated that actor Rukmini Vasanth, best known for her roles in the Sapta Sagaradaache Ello franchise and Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, is part of the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer Dharman. The producer of the film, Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, is yet to confirm her casting. However, news outlets across the South, especially those in Kannada, and industry insiders report that she is part of the cast.

Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu of Oh My Kadavule and Dragon fame, Dharman marks the 173rd film in Rajinikanth's career. Besides the Superstar, the film also has actors Simran, Raashii Khanna, and Yogi Babu. It brings Rajinikanth and Simran back together after 2019's Petta.

The makers of the film are yet to reveal plot specifics. However, the posters show Rajinikanth as a doctor, with the description calling him 'deadly'. Recently, Ashwath dismissed the speculation that Dharman is a remake of the Netflix series The Good Doctor.

There have been multiple changes to the project, which was tentatively titled Thalaivar 173 at the onset. Director Sundar C exited the project, mentioning 'unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances' as the reason for it. Subsequently, Raaj Kamal Films International brought Cibi Chakaravarthi of Don fame as the director for Thalaivar 173. At the time Cibi was attached to it, it was described as an emotional family action entertainer. The producer even mentioned "every family has a hero" as the tagline for it. However, they eventually replaced Cibi with Ashwath Marimuthu, who recently hinted at a family-oriented thriller.

Coming back to Rukmini Vasanth, the actor recently made her Tamil debut with Ace, co-starring Vijay Sethupathi. The actor's upcoming films include Toxic with Yash and filmmaker Geetu Mohandas and Dragon with director Prashanth Neel and Jr NTR.
