The shooting of Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's Meesaya Murukku 2 is reportedly in its final stages, with industry sources indicating that only two more days of filming remain before the sequel is wrapped up. While an official confirmation from the makers is awaited, the film is currently expected to head for a theatrical release in September.
The sequel was officially announced earlier this year with the release of its title teaser, which revealed that the story would unfold across two timelines, one set in the 1980s and another in the present day. The teaser also hinted at Adhi playing dual roles, with one of the characters seemingly portraying a musician determined to challenge the conventions surrounding Indian classical music.
Meesaya Murukku 2 marks Adhi's return to the franchise nearly a decade after the release of Meesaya Murukku (2017), his directorial debut. The coming-of-age musical drama, which was loosely based on Adhi's own journey as an independent musician, went on to become a commercial success and developed a loyal fan base, particularly among youngsters.
The sequel features an expanded cast, with Chaithra J Achar, Ketika Sharma and Nilavukku En Mel Ennadi Kobam actor Ramya Ranganathan joining the franchise. Nassar, Aadukalam Naren, Karunaas, Sha Ra and Harshath Khan also star in the film.
As with the first instalment, Adhi has taken on multiple responsibilities, serving as writer, director, music composer and lyricist. The film is produced by Khushbu Sundar under the Avni Movies banner in association with ACS Arun Kumar of Benzz Media Pvt Ltd. The technical crew includes cinematographer Balaji Subramanyam, editor Fenny Oliver, art director VS Dinesh Kumar and stunt choreographer Action Sandhosh.
Although the makers are yet to announce a release date, reports suggest the film is on track for a September theatrical release following the completion of production.
