The wave of directors turning producers continues. Hours after actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan announced his first production venture, Jana Nayagan filmmaker H Vinoth unveiled the title of his maiden production: Almost Nallavan. Headlined and directed by Bigg Boss Tamil-fame Raju Jeyamohan, the film stars Dushara Vijayan as the female lead and has Sathyaraj playing a key role.
H Vinoth is backing Almost Nallavan through his newly-launched Aspire Ubuntu Films Private Limited banner. It is co-produced by Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios. A customary pooja took place on Monday and the film has officially gone on floors. This film marks Raju's directorial debut.
Further details on the cast, plot and a tentative release date are yet to be revealed. On the technical team, the film has music by Foxn, cinematography by TS Prasanna and editing by R Govindaraj.
H Vinoth began his directorial with the 2014 film Sathuranga Vettai, starring Natty and Ishaara Nair in the lead roles. He then went on to make the critically acclaimed Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru in 2017 with Karthi, which won him several accolades. Vinoth later collaborated with Ajith Kumar in three movies - the Pink remake Nerkonda Paarvai (2019), Valimai (2022) and Thunivu (2023). He is currently awaiting the release of Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan which has been stuck in the cans, owing to censor certificate related issues from the CBFC since December last year.
Raju Jeyamohan emerged as the winner of the popular reality show Bigg Boss Tamil season 5 and is also known for his stint in the cooking show Cooku With Comali season 6 in which he also emerged as the winner. After many years of playing supporting characters, Raju made his debut as the lead with Bun Butter Jam last year.
Dushara meanwhile was last seen in Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 in Tamil and had recently portrayed a key role in the Malayalam film Kattalan. Besides Almost Nallavan, she has also worked on Vishal's directorial debut Magudam which is awaiting release.
