

Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku, headlined by Vetri and Rangaraj Pandey, was previously announced to be hitting theatres on June 25. However, the release of the Dayal Padmanabhan directorial was postponed. On Thursday, the makers of the film announced the film's new release date along with the news that the film has been censored U/A with no cuts.
Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku tells the story of a murder convict who faces a death sentence. Set in the early 70s, the film stars Vetri as Arivumathi in conversation with jail warden Sivanantham (Rangaraj Pandey) about the righteousness of capital punishment, a day before he is set to be hanged. The film, as the director previously revealed, is made as food for thought for the audience on the need for capital punishment.
The film is slated to open in theatres on July 10. Besides the lead cast, the film also features Brigida Saga Saravanan, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Lizzie Antony, Subramaniam Siva, Logan Kannan, Narmadha, Aruvi Madhan, Kanya Bharathy, Suba Veerapandian and Kavitha Bharathy, among others.
The film is backed by KV Shabarreesh under the 2m Cinemas banner, alongside the film's director, Dayal Padmanabhan, who co-produces under his home banner, D Pictures. The filmmaker, who has won two Karnataka State Film Awards, made his Tamil debut with Kondraal Paavam in 2023 and followed it up with Maruthi Nagar Police Station.
Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku will have MV Panneerselvam cranking the camera, Darbuka Siva composing music and Anbu heading the production design. Upon its release, the film will clash at the box office with Atharvaa's Idhayam Murali and Pavish's Love Oh Love.
