Earlier, we reported that the likes of Dhanush, Vijay Sethupathi, Sai Pallavi, Dushara Vijayan, Vishnu Vishal, R Parthiban, and more got recognised at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for their performances in films that hit theatres earlier this decade or before. While fans have generally been in agreement with the awards, not everyone is happy with the jury's final selections. Interestingly, one of the main omissions in the list of awardees is director Ram's 2018 film Peranbu, starring Mammootty, Anjali, and Sadhana, among others. While the film has earned Theni Easwar a Best Cinematographer award, it is missing in the list of winners in the other categories.

Consequently, many internet users have been calling out the jury for the lack of recognition for Peranbu at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, despite it being recognised at the international level. The netizens are calling out the jury, questioning their credibility and wondering whether they have seen all the contenders.

Peranbu Review: A beautiful meditation on life and love

Many netizens feel that Mammootty deserved the Best Actor award more for his performance in Ram's film as compared to Dhanush's performance in Vetri Maaran's Vada Chennai. Some of them even reverted to abusing the jury, like what they did when the National Film Awards also failed to recognise Mamootty's performance in the movie. Back then, they took out their frustration on National Film Award jury member Rahul Rawail for failing to recognise Mammotty's performance in Peranbu with a Best Actor award. It even made Rahul respond to the angry fans with a now-deleted post, calling out their behaviour.

Interestingly, some were quick to note down the lack of recognition for director Mani Ratnam's masterpiece Iruvar at the Tamil Nadu Film Awards. They allege political play in the lack of recognition for Peranbu, as with the case of Iruvar.
