We take our acting greats for granted, don't we? Especially when they are in the league of Mammootty. We assume that they can enact any particular situation just like that. But do you know that even the Bramayugam star experienced doubts regarding how to approach a scene? In a recent interview with The Cue, director Ram talked about a sequence in his film Peranbu where Mammooty's onscreen daughter Pappa (Sadhana) experiences menstruation, and he seeks the help of a woman (Anjali) to deal with it. Ram revealed that Mammootty did not know how to cope with the situation because he had never experienced something similar in real life, and that the actor sought his wife's and the director's advice. "Even I did not know how to do that scene. So I told him 'just leave it blank and do not act it out.'" The filmmaker went on to praise Mammootty's honesty and curiosity to seek inputs, despite his decades-long experience as an actor. "He becomes a child when acting; it is his passion," shared the filmmaker.
The director added that Mammootty also experiences insecurity, especially when he feels that he has not gotten it right in the first take itself. "When he does a film, he does not realise how big an actor he is or consider his massive fanbase. Therefore, he can prepare his mind according to each unique genre. He acted in Peranbu as though it was his first film."
Mammootty has Kalamkaval with Vinayakan and debutant director Jithin K Jose and Patriot with director Mahesh Narayanan up next. Patriot reunites Mammootty with Mohanlal after 2013's Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty. The Mahesh Narayanan directorial also stars Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, and Kunchacko Boban. On the other hand, Ram's latest directorial Paranthu Po has opened to critical and audience appreciation.
