At the Draupathi 2 press meet, which was held recently in Chennai, director Mohan G revealed the new singer who has crooned the 'Emkoney' song from the film, replacing Chinmayi. While Chinmayi originally lent her voice for the song, a controversy arose when she said she didn't know that it was for a Mohan G directorial.

Mohan G said that it was a "mistake" when speaking about the song and the choice he and composer Ghibran made for the singer. He further revealed that Padmalatha has sung the updated version of the song, which will play in movie theatres when the film releases.

For the unversed, Chinmayi received a lot of flak for collaborating with Mohan G for the 'Emkoney' song from Draupathi 2, as their political ideologies don't align. Following the backlash, Chinmayi issued a statement saying she didn't know which film she sang the song for and that she only did it for composer Ghibran. After her statement, director Mohan G asked netizens to refrain from attacking the technicians of his film. Later, the director, along with producer Sola Shakkaravarthi, also confirmed that her version will not play in theatres.

Draupathi 2, a spiritual sequel to Draupathi (2020), stars Richard Rishi, Natty Nataraj and Rakshana Induchoodan in the lead roles. The film is backed by Sola Shakkaravarthi under the Netaji Productions banner along with GM Film Corporation. The ensemble cast also includes Chirag Jani, Vela Ramamoorthy, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gourang, Y Gee Mahendran, Barani, Deviyani Sharma, Divi, Saravanan Subbiah and Jayavel, among others.

Set against the backdrop of the Hoysala Kingdom under the rule of Veera Vallala III, the film explores the resistance of the Kadavarayas, the internal conflicts within the kingdom, and the turbulence caused by the Mughal invasion.

On the technical front, Draupathi 2 has music composed by Ghibran, cinematography by Philip R Sundar, editing by Devaraj, action choreography by Action Santosh, and art direction by Kamalnathan. Initially planned for a late January release, the film was brought forward to hit theatres for Pongal. However, it has now been rescheduled for January 23.
