Recently, director Gautham Vasudev Menon recalled his days shooting for Ajith's Yennai Arindhaal and shared anecdotes from the film's set. He recalled Ajith vehemently opposing mass commercial elements that were written just for fan service.
Speaking to Cineulagam, Gautham Vasudev Menon said, "When I did Yennai Arindhaal with Ajith, he was very particular about not adding mass or overtly commercial elements to the film or to his character. He clearly told me that such elements were being added only because of his star status and asked me to refrain from doing so, especially since my films usually do not have them."
Gautham then shared why he felt the need to write such elements into the story. "I wrote those moments keeping Ajith sir in mind, but I also felt there was some scope to incorporate commercial touches since he was playing a police officer. There were a few dialogues by Vivek that hyped his character, which Ajith sir immediately removed while we were reading the scene," he explained.
Yennai Arindhaal also stars Trisha, Anushka Shetty and Arun Vijay in lead roles. The film revolves around a former police officer's battle to protect his stepdaughter from his arch-enemy. It marks the final film of Menon's police trilogy after Kaakha Kaakha and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.
Gautham Menon last helmed Mammootty's Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, which marked his Malayalam directorial debut. While he is still making efforts for his Dhruva Natchathiram to see the light of day, he is currently working on a romantic story script.
