Ever since its digital release on Zee 5 last month, the Mammootty-Gautham Vasudev Menon film Dominic and the Ladies' Purse has found appreciation from many who missed it during its theatrical run. The actor's charming performance as a fun private detective and Gautham's direction, which is remarkably different from the gritty style he usually employs for his thrillers, are being lauded by netizens. Thrilled by the response, the director took to social media to share a brief handwritten note of gratitude.
Acknowledging the positive talk, he wrote, "Thank you for the overwhelming response to my film, Dominic and the Ladies' Purse. I've been hearing some really good things about the film and that there's been lots of viewership across homes." Relieved that the film has finally found its audience after a lukewarm theatrical run, the director added, "I'm thinking 'finally' and 'long due.' A big thanks and shout out to the Mammookka."
Dominic and the Ladies' Purse, Gautham's maiden Malayalam directorial, is about a private detective who does shady jobs to make quick money. The film primarily revolves around his quest to find the owner of a ladies' purse, which leads him to dark secrets. During the time of its release, the director had even expressed his interest in making a detective-thriller franchise with the character Dominic.
