For nearly a week now, speculations were rife that Vijay Sethupathi was set to reunite with Mani Ratnam for a film. Now, the Thalaivan Thalaivii actor has confirmed the same in an interview with Variety India. The film will star Sai Pallavi as the female lead in their first collaboration.
Speaking about reuniting with Mani Ratnam, Vijay Sethupathi said, “I’ve worked with Mani Sir before, in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in 2018. This time we will be doing something completely different.”
Further, in the same interview, the Ace actor also detailed that he does not want to repeat roles or do remakes or sequels. "That Vijay Sethupathi, who entered the film industry seeking small roles, is still alive. I want to make sure he remains alive even if he is working with Mani Ratnam. When I came into the cinema, all I wanted to do was to stand in front of the camera and say my dialogues. Even today, I feel so alive when I’m in front of the camera.”
Details about the genre, plot, extended cast and crew of the upcoming Mani Ratnam directorial remain unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in Gandhi Talks, a silent film co-starring Aditi Rao Hydari and Arvind Swami. He has Pocket Novel, Train, Arasan, Jailer 2, and Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road in various stages of production. Mani Ratnam last helmed Kamal Haasan's Thug Life, which opened to underwhelming reviews.
Sai Pallavi will next be seen in Ek Din with Junaid Khan, which is slated for release on May 1. Recently she came onboard Dhanush's D55, helmed by Rajkumar Periasamy. She is also set to be seen as Sita in the magnum opus two-part Ramayana opposite Ranbir Kapoor's Rama.
