'Aaluma Doluma' from the Ajith Kumar starrer Vedalam (2015) is one of the most popular tracks in Ajith and Anirudh's careers. However, in a recent interview, the music director said that he was not sure about the quality of the song initially.
In an interview with Billboard India, Anirudh was asked whether he found any of his songs to be not good enough, and he replied saying, "There are so many." Then, he cited 'Aaluma Doluma' as an example. He explained, "I didn't want the song to come out at all. I was like, 'No, this is not the song.' I have said this once before actually."
Anirudh said that he called director Siva the night before the shoot of the song and told him not to film it. Recalling the conversation, the composer stated, "I told him, 'This song is not happening. It's not going to work, and Ajith sir's fans are not going to enjoy it. So please change the shooting date.' And he said, 'Okay.' Then, he went and shot the song."
Subsequently, Siva called Anirudh and told the composer that everyone part of the film "loved the song," including Ajith and the film's producer. "When they told that to me, I was like, 'Oh, no. We are doomed.'"
Despite the composer's skepticism, 'Aaluma Doluma' became a chartbuster and a frequent party number at festivals and other cultural events. Described as "a high energy Kuththu track," it sits at 35th on the list of the most-viewed Tamil songs on YouTube, with more than 148 million views so far. It is the highest-viewed song from Ajith Kumar's career on the YouTube list, although Anirudh has composed tracks with more views in comparison.
