Singer and Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman has performed for the first time at London's iconic venue Royal Albert Hall. An orchestral showcase spanning three nights, made in partnership with composer Rushil Ranjan, assembled emerging and international-level musicians for a production that blended Indian with Western classical music traditions.

The so-called AR Rahman x Rushil Ranjan showcase drew attention for its intent and scale, placing next-gen musicians in the thick of an international stage. One of the highlights of the event is Rangreza, which is composers Rahman and Ranjan's newly commissioned composition. Performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Voices, along with Associate Artist Abi Sampa, the piece is based in Sufi music and explored the musical and spiritual language shared by different cultures.

The evening found its emotional core from the integration of musicians hailing from Rahman's initiatives, KM Music Conservatory and the Sunshine Orchestra, nurturing young Western classical talents from underserved communities. The performance by them, along with a global orchestra, marked what is billed as one of the most meaningful and rarest examples of representation at a prestigious stage.

Speaking about this, AR Rahman stated, "Seeing our Sunshine Orchestra share the stage with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra feels deeply special. As an educator, moments like these remind me why we begin in the first place. When you sow seeds hoping for goodness and without expectation, life has a beautiful way of surprising you. I am proud of these young musicians who are making not just India proud on an international scale but also taking music to new heights."

Percussionist Janan Sathiendran and vocalist Sarthak Kalyani also participated in the event, with celebrated dancer Aakash Odedra's choreography bringing a dynamic visual dimension to it. Besides new compositions, the audience at Royal Albert Hall was treated to orchestral iterations of Rahman’s popular film scores, which include but are not limited to those from Jodhaa Akbar, 127 Hours, Rockstar, and Guru.
