Earlier this Saturday, the makers of Kara, written and directed by Vignesh Raja and starring Dhanush in the lead role, announced that censorship formalities for the film have been completed. Producer Vels Film International announced that the film has been certified U/A.
The update comes not long after Dhanush praised Kara and its director Vignesh Raja. The actor expressed his gratitude to the filmmaker for making the film and called him a "genius". Fans have since been arguing that whenever Dhanush has done something similar, the projects in question have gone on to become quality films.
Kara also stars Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Karunas, MS Baskar, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Sreeja Ravi, among others. It brings Vignesh Raja back together with his Por Thozhil co-writer Alfred Prakash.
On the technical front, it has cinematographer Theni Eswar, composer GV Prakash, editor Sreejith Sarang, and art director Mayapandi. Previously, Theni Eswar worked with Dhanush on Karnan and GV Prakash most recently collaborated with the actor on Idli Kadai.
The film is produced by Ishari K Ganesh and co-produced by his daughter Kushmitha Ganesh. Recently, Vignesh Raja revealed that the film is set in Ramanathapuram of the 1990s, during an intense geopolitical conflict between the USA and Iraq. "Similar to today's West Asia war, oil depots were bombed, causing massive destruction and fires. There was a severe shortage of petrol and diesel. Against this backdrop, the story unfolds over 16 days," the filmmaker revealed. He added, "Karasaami is forced to revisit certain aspects of his life that he had chosen to walk away from. He tries to protect and support the people who depend on him, and in doing so, faces various consequences and life-altering turns."
Kara is slated for an April 30 release in theatres.
