Actor Soori, who is currently awaiting the release of Mathimaran Pugazhendhi's Mandaadi, dropped a filming update regarding the movie on the occasion of Tamil New Year. Sharing a new poster of the film on his X handle, he wrote that the action entertainer is currently in the final stages of shooting.
With production nearing completion, the makers are yet to reveal a release window for the film. While the team previously said that it will hit theatres during summer this year, an official update is awaited.
Apart from Soori, the film has Suhas, Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Achyuth Kumar, Sachana Namidass, and Ravindra Vijay in central roles.
The film, according to the director's interview to CE, is about a water sport peculiar to the 100-kilometre stretch of the Tamil Nadu coastline. The director said, "I hail from Cuddalore, and I love the ocean. So it has been my longtime desire to explore the seascape. I was on the lookout for something unexplored, and that was when my friend introduced me to a sailing boat race. Mandaadi is the leader of a fishing expedition team. That person has expertise in studying the ocean currents and the direction of wind and fish. The game is played once a year, mostly during festivals, where six-member teams compete against each other".
The much-anticipated film has piqued audiences interest since its first announcement. According to the makers, it is the biggest, most ambitious project in Soori's film career so far and sees the actor playing an "image-defining" character. Soori has performed the highly intense oceanic action scenes with no body double.
The film is produced by Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment, which had bankrolled the Vijay Sethupathi-Soori starrer Viduthalai films by filmmaker Vetri Maaran.
The film's technical crew comprises music composer GV Prakash, cinematographer SR Kathir, editor Pradeep E Ragav and stunt choreographer Peter Hein.
