We had reported last year that after starring in Maaman, actor Soori will headline Mathimaran Pugazhendhi's Mandaadi. The first look was unveiled along with the announcement of the project.
Actor Soori took to his social media handle to post the video of behind-the-scenes footage featuring him doing workouts with the implements available to him in a boat mid-sea. The glimpse also took us through some intense scenes shot in the ocean.
The film, according to the director's interview to CE, is about a water sport peculiar to the 100-kilometre stretch of the Tamil Nadu coastline. The director said, "I hail from Cuddalore, and I love the ocean. So it has been my longtime desire to explore the seascape. I was on the lookout for something unexplored, and that was when my friend introduced me to a sailing boat race. Mandaadi is the leader of a fishing expedition team. That person has expertise in studying the ocean currents and the direction of wind and fish. The game is played once a year, mostly during festivals, where six-member teams compete against each other".
Mandaadi, which is being made with the supervision of international stunt experts, faced a setback in filming last year as a boat capsized during the shoot.
The film is produced by Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment, which had bankrolled the Vijay Sethupathi-Soori starrer Viduthalai films by filmmaker Vetrimaaran. Apart from Soori, the film has Suhas and Mahima Nambiar playing the female lead, with actors Sathyaraj, Achyuth Kumar, Sachana Namidass, and Ravindra Vijay in central roles.
The film's technical crew comprises music composer GV Prakash, cinematographer SR Kathir, editor Pradeep E Ragav and stunt choreographer Peter Hein.
