Director Vignesh Shivan's 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, is not only a critically acclaimed film but also one mired in controversies. The film courted controversy amidst its release after politicians protested a scene where Nayanthara's character buys beer. More recently, the film's producer Dhanush sued Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan for their alleged use of a Naanum Rowdy Dhaan BTS footage in their wedding documentary.
Meanwhile, during a promotional event for his upcoming film Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), director Vignesh revealed a less-known story about the 2015 film. The filmmaker said that he wanted to go to Pondicherry to write the screenplay for the film back in the day but did not have enough money for it. Regardless, he told composer Anirudh about his trip; when the bus journey started, the music director sent him a text message saying that he kept 50,000 in the filmmaker's bag.
Vignesh revealed that Anirudh's gesture had him in tears throughout the rest of the journey. "He kept 50,000 in my bag without even letting me know. It is an unforgettable moment in my life," the filmmaker said. He also praised Anirudh's generosity. "It is not just his music, but Ani as a person is a big gift," the filmmaker added.
It is worth noting that Anirudh has served as a composer on all of Vignesh Shivan's films except for his directorial debut, 2012's Podaa Podi. The upcoming film LIK brings them back together after collaboration on 2022's Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. The film's music has already been popular among the masses, especially the first single 'Dheema,' also sung by Anirudh. Notably, the composer has lent his voice to most of the songs in the film.
