Producer and former DMK member Jaffer Siddiq held a press meet recently where he clarified the allegations against him following a drug bust case. The producer said that he has no connections with the drug racket based out of Delhi, contradicting reports saying that he led the network as its kingpin. He added that he has not dealt with drugs worth 2000 crore, unlike what has been widely reported, and that only a small amount of the substance has been connected to him.
Jaffer Siddiq also revealed that he is not part of any party as of now and asked people not to spread 'fake news' at a time when he is following due court proceedings. "Either I should tell you about the case or the court should; nothing else is legitimate," Jaffer said before suggesting that one is and should be considered innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The producer said that his friends and relatives are also being hurt following the accusations against him. He suggested that all of these happen in his life partly because he is a Muslim. "There is no ethics behind all this," said the producer, referring to the negativity surrounding his life.
He also abstained from offering in-depth insights into the case, because court proceedings are still going on. "Something might be misconstrued in the process if I go too in-depth," he added.
Jaffer was attached to director Ameer's film Iraivan Miga Periyavan when the accusations about his involvement in drug smuggling came into light. Back then, the Narcotics Control Bureau revealed that he was heading a global smuggling ring spanning India, Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia. Having spent over a year in jail, Jaffer is now out on bail.
