The star-studded audio launch of Dhanush's upcoming film Idli Kadai saw the cast, crew and other notable celebrities and producers in attendance. Dhanush, who has been having an eventful year with two releases - Kuberaa and now, Idli Kadai, spoke about the origins of the story during the grand event on Sunday and what made him choose the specific title.
"As a kid, I always craved Idlies every single day, but I couldn’t afford them. Hence we started collecting flowers from the neighbourhood. The money we get will be based on the amount of flowers we collect everyday. My sister, cousins and I would wake up at 4 am to do this for over two hours," he narrated.
"We'd get a little over Rs 2 each for the jobs. Then, we'd head to a local pump set, bathe and walk with just a towel on the main road. For that money, we would get four to five idlies. Nothing can beat the satisfaction and taste that is gotten out of eating food from our own hard-earned money," he added, stating that he wanted to take the audiences back in time with Idli Kadai. Dhanush further underlined that the film takes inspiration from true characters and incidents that left a deep impact on him.
When probed about his response for his "haters", Dhanush dismissed it, stating that there is nothing like that at all. "There is no such concept called 'haters'. Everyone watches every film. May be a group of 30 members do spread hate with 300 fake IDs for their survival. They will also watch films, and the ground reality is different from what their portray on their handles. If people spread love, that would be reciprocated back," he said.
Dhanush also shared a personal message for his fans, urging them to support his films and, more importantly, spend quality time with their families. "These days, I’m meeting many fans who are now successful doctors, engineers, and lawyers. It makes me truly happy because that’s exactly what I wish for them. Focus on building your life," he said.
Dhanush stars as Murugan in Idli Kadai, which marks his fourth directorial. The star cast includes Nithya Menen as Kayal, Sathyaraj as Vishnu Varadhan, Arun Vijay as Ashwin, Samuthirakani as Marisamy, Rajkiran as Sivanesan, Shalini Pandey as Meera and Parthiban as R Arivu.
The technical crew comprises Dhanush's frequent collaborator, composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, editor GK Prasanna, and art director Jackson.
The film is produced by Akash Bhaskaran through his Dawn Pictures banner and Dhanush through his Wunderbar Pictures banner. Inban Udhayanidhi, son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, will get his first film credit as a distributor.
Idli Kadai is slated for a theatrical release on October 1.
