Recently, Sony LIV unveiled its slate for 2025, with titles from across languages and film industries. One of the titles was the series The Madras Mystery: Fall of a Superstar, featuring Nazriya Nazim in the lead role. The story is set to revolve around the murder of journalist Lakshmikanthan and the alleged involvement of seasoned actor MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar in the same.
A still from the glimpse showed an actor in the look of the late Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. With Shanthnu Bhagyaraj being mentioned as one of the cast members, many speculated that the actor underwent an extreme look change to portray Bhagavathar. However, on Sunday, Shanthu clarified that he plays a different character in the project.
Sharing the still, Shanthnu wrote, "Clearing the air, this is not me in the poster; he is a theatre artist who has performed exceptionally well. Having said that… yes, I am a part of this series, #TheMadrasMystery. The official announcement, with me sporting a new look, will be out soon, and I can’t wait to share more with you. This project is going to be very special for me."
The series marks the return of Malayalam actor Nazriya Nazim to the Tamil film industry after 11 years. Set in the 1940s in British India, the series is slated to premiere on Sony LIV on November 6. Directed by debutant Ashif Pavapettadayil, The Madras Mystery is produced by Netru Indru in association with Getto Entertainment.
Apart from Nazriya and Shanthnu, The Madras Mystery will also star Nasser, YG Mahendran and Natty. More details about the plot of the series are awaited. Meanwhile, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj is currently gearing up for the release of his sophomore Malayalam film, Balti, starring Shane Nigam in the lead role.
