With just three days left for the Deepavali festive releases, director Mari Selvaraj is busy promoting his fifth directorial, Bison. Starring Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran in lead roles, the film is all set to hit theatres on October 17.
Recently, reports suggested that Inban Udhayanidhi, the son of politician and former actor Udhayanidhi Stalin and the grandson of Chief Minister MK Stalin, is all set to make his acting debut with a Mari Selvaraj directorial. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker has also spoken about his lineup, without denying a film with Inban Udhayanidhi.
With D56 with Dhanush already lined up after Bison, some reports suggested that he is also in talks with Karthi for a film. When he was asked how he has one-liners for all these actors, particularly naming Karthi and Inban Udhayanidhi, Mari Selvaraj did not deny any of the projects. Rather, he said, "I always tell my actors the entire story, not just one-liners. For me, it is important that they agree to the story I have envisioned. I don't want any disappointments once the film goes on floors." When further asked how he has so many stories ready, he added, "My stories are taken from day-to-day lives and real people. So some or the other story is always there."
As the filmmaker did not deny projects with either Inban or Karthi, new speculations are rife that he is set to work on those projects after completing D56. However, an official confirmation is awaited.
Inban recently took over the reins of the Red Giant Movies production company and distributed Dhanush's Idli Kadai as his first venture. Videos of Inban undertaking acting classes and workshops have already been circulating on social media for a while, and it was speculated that he will soon be stepping into the industry. If the Mari Selvaraj–Inban project materialises, it could mark a defining moment in Inban's career, as he continues on the path once taken by his father.
It is worth noting that Mari Selvaraj had earlier collaborated with Udhayanidhi Stalin on the latter's last film, the 2023 political action drama Maamannan, which also featured Vadivelu in a prominent role as Udhayanidhi’s father. The film was critically acclaimed for its raw portrayal of the 'politics of a chair' — symbolising power, hierarchy, and the struggle of an oppressed individual to rise within a deeply unequal political system.
