Despite a massive drop in revenue during its second week in theatres, Dhanush-Nithya Menen's Idli Kadai is still bringing consistent collections to theatres, adding over Rs 1 crore each day, taking its total to over Rs 45 crore in ten days. At the end of nine days, Idli Kadai minted Rs 44.25 crore out of which Tamil Nadu contributed to Rs 41.1 crore, while the Telugu version earned Rs 3.15 crore. On Friday, day 10, the drama minted Rs 1.25 crore, taking its countrywide total to Rs 45.50 crore. With the film entering its second weekend, industry experts are expecting a revival in collections.

Dhanush's Idli Kadai should be exempt from tax, says BJP spokesperson: 'It celebrates traditional values'

While the film did receive positive word-of-mouth reviews, the massive success of Kantara: Chapter 1 had rewritten box office history with hundreds thronging theatres to catch Rishab Shetty's period drama which is winning appreciation worldwide. It has already entered the Rs 500 crore club, beating its own predecessor Kantara and even KGF: Chapter 1.

Idli Kadai revolves around Dhanush as Murugan who is in pursuit of finding his roots and setting up his father's idli shop in their ancestral village after quitting his job at a michelin-star restaurant. The film also stars Arun Vijay, Rajkiran, Sathyaraj, Parthiban and Samuthirakani.

While the film has been receiving positive reviews on the screenplay front, it has been receiving mixed reviews on its predictable storyline. Our CE review of the film read, "Dhanush headlines a warm and fuzzy film that makes us realise that familiarity and comfort are good, but only for a while."

The technical crew comprises Dhanush's frequent collaborator, composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, editor GK Prasanna, and art director Jackson. The film is produced by Akash Bhaskaran through his Dawn Pictures banner and Dhanush through his Wunderbar Pictures banner. The film marks Inban Udhayanidhi's (son of Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin) first film credit as a distributor.
