Even as Bigg Boss introduced a number of twists, turns and tasks for the housemates of season 9 on the very first day, the biggest task came with the first nomination process. The contestants, however, had no reservations in naming the person whom they felt didn't deserve to continue in the competition beyond a week.
Of the lot, Kalaiyarasan and Diwakar received the largest number of votes for eviction. While Kalaiyarasan was nominated the most for eviction, receiving 12 votes, Diwakar was not far behind, having received seven votes. Praveen Gandhi came next with four votes, while Viyana, Aadhirai, Apsara CJ, and Praveen Raj Dev each received three votes. Seven out of 20 contestants were nominated for this week's eviction process. The eviction of the contestant is decided by the audience's votes.
A lot of the contestants who nominated Kalaiyarasan said that they felt he was not competitive because he didn’t understand the seriousness of the game and because he didn’t mingle well with the rest of the house members. For Diwakar, contestants pointed out that he was hyper-focused on building his brand as the ‘watermelon star’ rather than actually playing the game.
Apart from the first nomination process, a lot more happened in the Bigg Boss house on day 1. This week's task is related to the water tanker, and rules for the task were revealed. Kemy, Diwakar and Praveen Raj Dev got into a heated argument. Further, a task titled 'Oru Naal Koothu' was also played where the contestants were asked to nominate those they felt couldn't last longer than a day in the Bigg Boss house. Apart from this, specific privilege were given for those in the Super Deluxe house and rules were set for those who lived in the normal Bigg Boss house.
Hosted by Vijay Sethupathi for the second time, Bigg Boss Tamil 9 streams 24×7 on JioHotstar, with an hour's worth of episodes premiering on Vijay Television at 9.30 pm. This season features a total of 20 contestants.
