It has been six years since the release of Vetri Maaran's film Asuran, starring Dhanush and Manju Warrier in the lead roles. On the occasion, Prime Video India and Manju Warrier shared some stills from the film in a social media post, captioning it, “Six years ago, vengeance met its match in Sivasaami,” referring to Dhanush’s character. The film marked Manju’s debut in Tamil cinema. Interestingly, in an interview with CE from back in the day, the actor revealed that she wanted to join the film’s cast even before hearing the story. However, she would eventually listen to a script narration on the insistence of her co-star Dhanush.

Asuran Movie Review: A moderately rewarding film, but Vetri Maaran has done better

Manju Warrier told CE that she felt fortunate to play Pachaiyammal in Asuran. The actor noted that even the Asuran crew told her during production that a powerful woman such as Pachaiyammal never featured before in a Vetri Maran film. The film laid the foundation for her to be cast opposite Vijay Sethupathi in Vetri’s Viduthalai Part 2, released last year.

Pachaiyammal was not really too different from Manju Warrier’s roles in Malayalam films. She has played strong female characters before in her home turf as well, such as opposite Lal and Mohanlal in director AK Lohithadas’ film Kanmadam.
