Two weeks after actor Robo Shankar's death, his daughter and actor Indraja Shankar, addressed the media, quashing speculations about her father's death and clarifying details on what was the real reason behind her mother's dance at his funeral.

The comedian-cum-mimicry artist breathed his last on September 18 after battling multiple health issues, at the age of 46. His sudden death saddened artists across Tamil Nadu who expressed their grief on their social media handles. Noted politicians and celebrities including Chief Minister MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Kamal Haasan, Dhanush and many others visited his residence to offer their support to the grieving family.

During his funeral, Robo Shankar's wife Priyanka danced in front of the funeral procession, a moment that sparked debate and criticism on social media.

Clearing the air around the issue, Indraja noted that both her father and mother started their careers through dance, and in that sense, her mother danced to express her love during her father’s final journey. She added that those who criticised it simply did not understand this.

His death was also subject to discussions on the internet with many speculating that a body paint that he used during his time as a body builder might have caused his sudden demise. Indraja dismissed this as well.

A private hospital in Chennai stated that he was admitted on September 16, Tuesday, "in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition." Although a team of specialists monitored his condition round the clock and provided intensive medical arrangements, his condition deteriorated rapidly and passed away on September 18.
