Earlier today, speculations were rife that Vijay Sethupathi has joined the cast of Jailer 2. Helmed by Nelson, the film stars Rajinikanth in the lead role. While the production for the film is ongoing in full swing with filming already wrapped in places like Chennai, Kerala, Goa and Mysuru, the makers are yet to confirm if Vijay Sethupathi's cast in the film is official.
However, previously, at the Galatta Gold Stars 2025 event, Vijay Sethupathi was of high praised for Nelson and also revealed that he had watched Jailer multiple times. He said, "Whenever I have had a conversation with Nelson after one of his film releases, I have never been able to mention a standout scene. That's because the entire film ends up being outstanding. Be it his writing, comedic timing, or the characters in his films, they're impeccable. His choice of actors for characters ensures that his comedic timing is also reflected in the film. Nelson is undoubtedly a game changer in cinema. I have watched Jailer nearly 6 to 7 times." Fans are now speculating that this might be a reason for the actor joining the film's cast.
If rumours turn out to be true, it would be Vijay Sethupathi's second collaboration with Rajinikanth after Karthik Subbaraj's Petta (2019). Most of the details surrounding the cast, except for Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan and Shivarajkumar, remain shrouded in mystery.
A sequel to the 2023 hit film Jailer, Jailer 2 will see Rajinikanth reprising his role of ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, who portrayed the role of his wife in the first film. Shivarajkumar, who made a cameo appearance in the first film, confirmed being a part of the sequel as well. It is yet to be confirmed whether Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff, who also had powerful cameos in the film, will be back for the second instalment.
Interestingly, the stellar ensemble is expected to get more star-studded in the sequel, with names like Nandamuri Balakrishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty speculated to be part of the cast. Santhanam, who has taken a long break from playing a comedian in films, is also reportedly roped in for the film.
Backed by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, Jailer 2will have music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by R Nirmal. Plot details, along with the actors part of the extended cast are yet to be announced by the makers.
