On Thursday, actor-director Cheran and actor-cinematographer Natty Nataraj unveiled the first-look poster of an upcoming film titled Promise. The film is set to mark the directorial debut of Arunkumar Sekaran, who also plays the protagonist in the film.
As per the makers, the film is built around the idea of truth. While Nadiya Somu plays the female lead, Promise will also star Sujan, Amrish, Pratap, Gokul, Sundaravel, Rajkumar, and Kalaivani, among others.
Shedding light on the film, director Arunkumar said, as per a press note, “In this world, a promise carries immense value. A promise made to one’s mother is deeply emotional and precious; no one would take such a promise lightly. In relationships such as between husband and wife or lovers, promises hold great meaning. Our film explores this idea. At one point, when a promise is broken and trust is shattered, a series of emotional events overturns their lives. Whether they recover from that turmoil or not forms the crux of the story.”
Sangamithran Productions and Amman Art Creations are backing the film together. On the technical front, the film's cinematography is handled by Vinothkumar DFT, music is composed by Saravana Deepan, while editing is by Sriram Vignesh.
Further, the filmmaker also spoke about the various locations at which the film has been shot. “Most of the filming took place in the sun-drenched towns of the combined Vellore district—Vellore, Ranipet, Arcot, Gudiyatham, Vaniyambadi and the Otukathur dam areas. Important portions were also shot in Pichavaram and Cuddalore. Since the story is based entirely on true events, the film features not only an engaging plot but also emotionally strong characters. These aspects give us great confidence in the project.”
Filming and post-production work are currently underway. The trailer will be released soon for Promise. A release date is yet to be announced.
