It has been four years since the passing of Vivek, known for his numerous comedic roles in Tamil cinema. Time is ripe to bring to your mind a phase from the actor's life when he took on an environmental mission. The actor once signed up for a project where he aimed to plant one crore trees under his foundation Sai Prasanna Foundation. Speaking at a SIIMA award function, host and actor Shiva asked Vivek how many saplings he planted until then. Using his customary humour, the actor answered the question while also saying that every place in India has a dedicated superstar. However, according to him, former President and his friend APJ Abdul Kalam was the one and only superstar for the whole country. Vivek undertook the environmental endeavour named 'Green Kalam' in respect to the late president and scientist as part of an anti-global warming campaign.
"If we wanted, he could have given this task to Amitabh Bachchan sir or Aamir Khan. However, in Tamil Nadu, he called and asked me to talk about the importance of trees in films and bring planting trees as an endeavour in Tamil Nadu," the actor said back then. The actor completed around 33 lakh saplings before his passing. He also campaigned statewide about environmental protection and global warming, especially among students.
