In an exclusive interview with CE, actor Ranjith has revealed that K Selva Bharathy, the director of his film Pasupathi c/o Rasakkapalayam, once approached him and his co-star Vivek from the 2007 film for a sequel to it. However, the unexpected passing of Vivek in 2021 contributed to the cancellation of the project. Ranjith described the potential film's screenplay as "extraordinary" and "full of comedy" before sharing that Vivek's health situation became worse and that the latter eventually died when they were seeking his date for the project. "After that, I did not feel like doing a film for three years," said Ranjith, alluding to his Pasupathi c/o Rasakkapalayam co-star's untimely passing.

The actor also referred to the tendency in the film industry to add a new cast member in an established role to proceed with a project. "We did not consider that option, because Vivek sir knew what the story was like and used to sit with us every single day to discuss the project. What were we going to achieve without him?" Ranjith said.

Ranjith also praised Vivek's ability to entertain the audience and make them think, a quality he feels set him apart from other actors in the industry who are predominantly known for their comic roles, such as Senthil, Nagesh, Goundamani, and Vadivelu, to name a few. Calling Vivek "a socially responsible actor," Ranjith argued that his co-star would turn a negative aspect in the script into a positive one in the final output. The actor then called Vivek "a great actor and his best friend" before saying that he would always have a place in the latter's mind.

Ranjith will next be seen in director Janaa Venkat's Irudhi Muyarchi, where he stars alongside Meghali and Vittal, among others. The film is slated for an October 10 release in theatres.
