With just two weeks to go for the release of Mani Ratnam's Thug Life, anticipation has been building for the Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan- headlined action entertainer. Promotions have been going on in full swing and the makers have remain tight-lipped about its storyline. However, one question that has been lingering on many fans' mind is actor Sanya Malhotra's role in the film.

The Mrs actor took the internet by a storm as she danced with fervour with Silambarasan in Thug Life's first single 'Jinguchaa'. While many had anticipated a full character arc for Sanya Malhotra, director Mani Ratnam quashed speculations by saying that her role was merely a "friendly appearance" in the film.

Speaking to Vikatan, director Mani Ratnam said, "She plays a cameo in the film and appears only in the song. It's a friendly appearance. She is a great dancer and a nice person."

"The story is set in Delhi and we needed that flavour. We needed a North Indian face, that's why we went with her," he added.
