As Lokesh Kanagaraj is busy gearing up for the release of Rajinikanth's Coolie, the actor visited the PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, on Monday to promote the film. The filmmaker, an alumnus of the college, spoke to the students there about Coolie, the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), and his future collaborations.
After addressing the students about Coolie, a question and answer session took place. When asked about his collaboration with Suriya, who played a cameo role as Rolex in Vikram, the actor shared, “It is my dream to work with Suriya sir. Between 2003 and 2006, when I sat on your seats as a college student, I used to watch Suriya sir’s films in theatres. Aayutha Ezhuthu, Pithamagan, Mayavi, and Kaakha Kaakha hit theatres back-to-back. Now that I am on the stage as a filmmaker, I want to work with Suriya sir, but it depends upon his availability and a lot of other factors.”
Further, another student questioned him about actor-turned-politician Vijay’s participation in the LCU. “Undoubtedly, LCU is incomplete without Vijay. But the choice of coming back to the LCU is his, and only he can tell you whether or not he will return to cinema. Today, his efforts and his intentions are fully focused on politics. So, it is not up to me to speak on behalf of Vijay Anna. But any day, LCU will not face fulfilment without him,” he said.
On working with Ajith Kumar, the director explained, “I love Ajith Kumar sir, and when the right time comes, we will work together.” In a recent interview with popular TV personality and anchor Gobinath, Lokesh shared that he has already approached Ajith's manager, Suresh Chandra, to talk about a project with the actor.
Apart from Rajinikanth, Coolie also stars Upendra, Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir. The film also marks a special cameo by Aamir Khan, alongside actors Reba Monica John and Junior MGR in pivotal roles. Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, the film is slated to hit theatres on August 14.
