We are only halfway through 2025, but many are wondering which the best and most popular films of the year are. If you are one of them, join the club! On Wednesday, IMDb shared the list of films that continue to attract the most eyeballs among the Indian audience. Unsurprisingly, director Laxman Utekar's Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava sits at the top of the list. Interestingly, Ashwath Marimuthu and Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon as well as Rosshan Andrrews and Shahid Kapoor's Deva come in at the second and third positions, respectively. Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya's Retro as well as Raj Kumar Gupta and Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 are also part of the top five.
Sitting at the bottom of the list is Magizh Thirumeni and Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi. Karan Singh Tyagi's Kesari Chapter 2, featuring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, is one spot above the Ajith starrer. RS Prasanna and Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan, as well as director Shivam Nair and John Abraham's The Diplomat are the other films in the bottom five.
IMDb bases the list of most popular Indian films on the number of views on the respective pages of each of these titles. The rankings are for films that hit theatres between January 01 and July 01 this year. IMDb has over 250 million visitors each month worldwide. Notably, each of these films has at least a six-star rating on IMDb from 10,000 or more votes. The rankings are interesting, especially considering the fact that some of the films, such as Retro, garnered mixed reviews, while others, such as Deva, did not become successful at the box office (according to reports). Many of the films have also been at the centre of big controversies, such as the historical mistakes and character misrepresentations in Chhaava or the raging debate around the portrayal of right-wing ideologies in L2: Empuraan.
