Director AR Murugadoss recently revealed that he is thinking about doing a film where a monkey plays the main role. Speaking to Sudhir Srinivasan, Murugadoss said that it was the first film he planned to do, but it kept getting pushed for all these years. However, he plans it as his next project. The filmmaker revealed that he conceived it as a children's film. It would mark an interesting diversion for Murugadoss, who is known for his mass films featuring big stars such as Vijay, Rajinikanth, Ajith Kumar, Chiranjeevi, and Suriya, among others. The filmmaker's works also boast strong villain characters, notably the ones played by Pradeep Rawat in Ghajini and Vidyut Jammwal in Thuppakki. This is why a film without a big hero could mark a major departure in Murugadoss' career. However, the filmmaker is yet to reveal further details about the project, including whether it would have a big star as well.

AR Murugadoss recently delivered a critically appreciated film, Madharaasi, after a string of panned and/or commercially underperformed films such as Darbar, starring Rajinikanth and Sikandar, starring Salman Khan. While the film, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Rukmini Vasanth, among others, is described as a 'flop' by industry tracker Sacnilk, it did gain some appreciation for its storytelling and performances.
