With just a few weeks to go for the release of Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited film Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, rumours and theories regarding its storyline have already flooded the internet. While it was earlier speculated that the period action drama will revolve around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965, the makers have now released a short video regarding its upcoming event, which reveals a major hint about its core plot.
The video takes the audiences 'back in time' with pictures of protests that happened during the agitation in 1965. Among them was a picture of a young man in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. Following the video announcement, many on social media identified the man to be Rajendran, a student of Annamalai University who lost his life during the anti-Hindi protests in that year. This led to users predicting that the film may be based on his life and the rebellion he led supporting the issue. However, the makers are yet to confirm any details regarding the same. Meanwhile, the team is in the process of erupting a huge set where public can 'enter into the world of Parasakthi'. Snapshots from the video reveal that the set will have artifacts relevant to the 1960s where the film is set.
According to reports, Rajendran hailed from Kallal village in Sivaganga district and was studying at Annamalai University. He lost his life during the anti-Hindi protests of 1965. At the time, he was a BSc student and was fatally shot by the police while taking part in a demonstration within the university campus. Due to the tense conditions prevailing across Tamil Nadu then, his last rites were performed in Parangipettai rather than in his hometown.
Besides Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan dons the antagonist role in Parasakthi, a first in his career while Atharvaa will also be seen playing a key role. The film is also expected to feature Rana Daggubati, although the makers have not confirmed his casting. Parasakthi features Sreeleela as the female lead. It marks her debut in Tamil cinema.
Parasakthi is Sudha Kongara's fourth film after Drohi, Irudhi Suttru, and Soorarai Potru. Sudha has written the film along with Arjun Nadesan, with additional screenplay by Ganeshaa and dialogues by Madhan Karky and Shan Karuppusamy.
The crew of the film includes Ravi K Chandran as the cinematographer, Sathish Surya as the editor, S Annadurai as the art director, and Supreme Sundar as the action choreographer. Aakash Baskaran is producing the film under his Dawn Pictures banner. Dev Ramnath is serving as the creative producer along with MP Senthel and Rhea Kongara as serving as executive producers. Red Giant Movies are distributing the film. With post production in full swing, Parasakthi is gearing up for a release on January 14, 2026.
