Veteran director-producer SA Chandrasekhar recently expressed his pride in witnessing his son Vijay chart a political path driven by the noble cause of serving the people of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a recent event, Chandrasekhar reflected on Vijay’s journey, from his rise as a leading actor to his entry into mainstream Tamil Nadu politics. He remarked that Vijay could have chosen to focus solely on strengthening his star image and continuing to earn money, but instead opted to dedicate himself to the welfare of the state and its people. "As humans, we are often selfish. Earning money is not the only purpose in life. He could have continued acting and making money, but he chose to leave everything behind to serve Tamil Nadu, to serve you," he said at an awards ceremony.
Chandrasekhar further noted that several factors may have influenced Vijay’s decision to take this path, including the roles he portrayed on screen. “Films plant seeds in an actor’s heart. When such roles are repeated, they can shape the mindset of a leader,” he explained, citing the example of former CM and actor MG Ramachandran.
He added, "In this generation, there are many filmmakers who instill the idea of social responsibility in actors. Among those important ones are AR Murugadoss."
Echoing the same thoughts during the pre-release event of Sarath Kumar-Shanmuga Pandian's upcoming film Kombuseevi, Chandrasekhar observed how people are now increasingly expecting a change in society, hinting at cinema as well as the current political landscape. "Change is the only constant and this is true for every sector - be it society, politics or in films. The industry that was once dominated by MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, PU Chinnappa and others, was later taken over by MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. After that, it was Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Today, we have the current generation of superstars. Hence, the youth who are striving for change need to witness victory. Both these youth population as well as the other members of the society are expecting a major change," he said, expressing hope that Kombuseevi would usher in that change.
