Veteran music director and singer AR Rahman is all set to be bestowed with the Lakshminarayana International Award of the year. The announcement was made by the organisers of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival.
Set to be presented to Rahman at a special ceremony on December 15, the award is instituted to honour artists for their contributions to the field of arts. Scheduled to be held at Rasika Ranjani Sabha in Chennai, the event will serve as the curtain raiser for Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival's 35th edition.
AR Rahman is a trailblazing Indian music composer and two-time Academy Award winner, renowned for revolutionising the Indian film industry's sonic landscape. With over 150 million records sold and 100+ film soundtracks to his credit, his iconic works include Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Taal, Lagaan, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours.
A Trinity College, London-trained musician, Rahman founded the acclaimed Panchathan Record Inn in Chennai. His historic debut with Roja earned him a National Award, the first of seven, and he has also received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his contributions.
Rahman, a busy musician, has a number of films in the pipeline as a composer. Of the lot, some of the big names include Ram Charan's Peddi, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana Part 1, Prabhu Deva's Moon Walk, and Hansal Mehta's Gandhi, among others. His most recent feature album was Tere Ishk Mein, Dhanush's film helmed by Aanand L Rai.
