Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyaar is currently gearing up to open in theatres on December 12. Helmed by Nalan Kumarasamy, the film also stars Krithi Shetty, Rajkiran and Sathyaraj in prominent roles. While the film is finally preparing to see the light of day after multiple delays, Karthi previously said that he was sceptical and scared to take up the film.

When the film was freshly announced, Karthi, Nalan, and the film's producer, KE Gnanavel Raja, were present at the 2024 Amazon Prime Video event, during which the slate for the year was announced. Speaking to Varun Dhawan on that stage, Karthi opened up about Vaa Vaathiyaar. He explained, "Our film is a tribute to the classic Indian masala film, but it has a different flavour. With the way it is presented, and through the performances and cinematography, we are trying to give the genre a fresh twist. I am very proud to say that Nalan was the first to introduce dark comedy into our cinema. He is making a film after seven years, and I feel lucky to be a part of it."

Karthi then revealed why he was afraid to initially take up the film. "I was honestly scared to sign Vaa Vaathiyaar. The alter ego of my character was very challenging to pull off, and it pushed me in ways I did not expect," he disclosed.

As per the film's trailer, Karthi is a devout fan of the late actor and Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, just like his father, played by Rajkiran, who is also known for celebrating his films in theatres. The son eventually grows up to become a police officer, but has his own way of dealing with matters of crime that gets him into trouble.

Vaa Vaathiyaar also features Anandaraj, GM Sundar, and Shilpa Manjunath in pivotal roles. Produced by KE Gnanavel Raja of the Studio Green banner, Vaa Vaathiyaar's technical crew comprises cinematographer George C Williams, editor Vetre Krishnan, music composer Santhosh Narayanan, and art director DRK Kiran.
