On Sunday, Prakash Raj took to his X handle to praise Mari Selvaraj-Dhruv Vikram's Bison Kaalamaadan. He wrote, "Bison Kaalamaadan finally watched it on Netflix. Thank you, Pa Ranjith and Mari Selvaraj, for using your art to tell our stories. I can see the pain which has chiselled you both. More power to your truth and for keeping the conversations alive."
After a successful theatrical run, which saw it gross over 75 crore from cinemas worldwide, the film premiered on Netflix on November 21. The film continues to garner positive reviews from audiences even after its digital release.
Bison Kaalamaadan tells the story of a young man named Kittan (Dhruv Vikram) wanting to break into the Indian National Kabaddi team. However, it is not an easy journey for Kittan, as he has to make his way up through a community full of caste prejudices and violence.
The film is based on the life and career of former national Kabaddi player and Arjuna Award winner Manathi Ganesan. Bison's cast includes Pasupathy, Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Ameer, Anupama Parameswaran, and Azhagam Perumal, among others.
The film received unanimous praise from critics and audiences upon its original release in mid-October. It has since become the highest-grossing film in director Mari Selvaraj's career. Applause Entertainment produced the film alongside Pa Ranjith and Aditi Anand's Neelam Studios.
An excerpt from CE's review of Bison reads, "Bison is Mari Selvaraj's most violent to date, and it is beautiful how the gore and bloodshed aren't at the hands of the protagonist but everywhere around him. It is a terrific exploration of the aftermath of violence and its unsettling consequences in the minds of the young and easily influenced."
