The last update we got from the Jailer 2 front was from the headliner, Rajinikanth himself, who said at IFFI Goa that the production for it is going really well and that some more portions are pending for the film. Meanwhile, some reports are suggesting that Mohanlal, who previously played a cameo in Jailer, is set to join the film's sets in December.
If speculations are to be believed, Mohanlal is set to shoot for the Nelson directorial for a couple of days from December 2, following which he will return to complete some of his Malayalam film commitments. He is then reportedly set to join Jailer 2 sets again on December 21 and shoot until December 24. However, these speculations are yet to be confirmed by the makers.
Meanwhile, rumours recently suggested that Vijay Sethupathi has joined the film's cast, while some others said that the reports were incorrect. A confirmation is awaited on that front as well.
A sequel to the 2023 hit film Jailer, Jailer 2 will see Rajinikanth reprising his role of ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, alongside Ramya Krishnan, who portrayed the role of his wife in the first film. Shivarajkumar, who made a cameo appearance in the first film, confirmed being a part of the sequel as well. It is yet to be confirmed whether Jackie Shroff, who also had a powerful cameo in the film, will be back for the second instalment.
Interestingly, the stellar ensemble is expected to get more star-studded in the sequel, with names like Nandamuri Balakrishna, Suraj Venjaramoodu,Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty speculated to be part of the cast.Santhanam, who has taken a long break from playing a comedian in films, is also reportedly roped in for the film.
With these rumours, the buzz surrounding the sequel is only getting louder with each announcement. Additionally, Meghana Raj Sarja recently confirmed that she is making her return to Tamil cinema with Jailer 2 in a key role. Malayalam actor Anna Raajan, best known for her breakthrough role in Lijo Jose Pellissery's Angamaly Diaries (2017), is also part of the cast.
Backed by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 will have music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and editing by R Nirmal. Jailer 2 is slated for a release in theatres worldwide on June 12, 2026.
