Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined a large number of people sending best wishes and congratulatory messages for Rajinikanth, as the actor completes his golden jubilee. Rajinikanth's first film as an actor, Apoorva Raagangal hit theatres on this day in 1975. PM Modi shared a picture of him with Rajinikanth and wrote, "Congratulations to Thiru Rajinikanth Ji on completing 50 glorious years in the world of cinema. His journey has been iconic, with his diverse roles having left a lasting impact on the minds of people across generations. Wishing him continued success and good health in the times to come."
Rajinikanth replied to Modi's message immediately, writing, "I am deeply grateful for your warm wishes. It is truly an honour to receive them from a leader I have long held in the highest regard. Thank you for your kind words."
Rajinikanth can be seen in the latest Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial Coolie, which hit theatres yesterday. The film, which marks his 171st as an actor, also stars Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Nagarjuna, Pooja Hegde, and Aamir Khan, among others. While Coolie has been met with mostly negative reviews from critics, the film is shattering box office records. Its producer, Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures announced earlier today that it has become the Tamil film with the "highest-ever" collection on release date, minting more than 151 crore. According to the producer, its overseas collection of more than $8.75 crore is also an all-time record for a Tamil film.
